Breath of Fire IV (E) ISO

Description :

After centuries of war, the two lands bordering an impenetrable swampland have finally reached an armistice. Mysteriously, the noble Princess Elena disappears somewhere near the war-ravaged front lines. Distraught, her sister Nina goes in search of the Princess alone and on her journey, meets a mysterious young warrior named Ryu. Their destinies soon entwine. The next chapter in the epic tale of magic and mystery now unfolds. The fate of what lies ahead rests in your control.

Breath Of Fire IV is the fourth game of the Breath of Fire Series. It's easily my favorite of the series and with good reasoning. This game in my opinion really rose above the rest even though Breath Of Fire II was a really good entry into the series. Not just my favorite of the series either, but probably one of my all-time favorite games. This game truly just left a remarkable impression upon me when I played through it. Either way, time for the review to get started.

Graphics:10/10:The graphics in Breath of Fire IV perfectly do what they were meant to. Remain 2D. The 2D graphics are excellent and the sprites are really good too. The character designs are also fantastic in Breath Of Fire IV and so are the enemy designs as well. Not just that, but the attacks in battle have terrific animations too. Everything in the game just looks so smooth and vibrant. Simply put, the graphics are amazingly beautiful in Breath of Fire IV. Breath of Fire IV shows that even in the days when 3D became the norm, 2D was still great too. Overall, the graphics in Breath of Fire IV are fantastic. So, the graphics receive a 10/10. With graphics out of the way, it's onto the gameplay.

Gameplay:10/10:Breath of Fire IV was an extremely fun game in my opinion. It had good pacing and simply was very entertaining. It's not exactly your typical RPG, but the basics are mostly the same. You will be buying weapons/armor from town. Also resting at the Inn in town as well if HP/MP needs to be recovered. Then from there, you'll generally trigger the next storyline event in town. Afterward, proceeding to your next destination. Generally, a dungeon. There proceeding to the end and facing a boss. You defeat the boss, and then it's pretty much the same from there on out. As far as world map travel goes though, it's pretty much point and click for the most part. Sure you move around the world map, but on a set path. Similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. In between, you can enter zones where you can get into battles. Just like Breath of Fire III. Battles and exploring is done with a four man party. As with previous games of the series, battles are initiated randomly. You walk around in a area with monsters, and you'll get in a battle eventually. From there, you transition from the field to a battlefield. Then the battle is on. Now, let me go over the rather unique battle system.

Yes the battle system is still turn based, but with a catch. Remember Final Fantasy X how you could switch party members in the middle of battle? Well, it's exactly like that in Breath Of Fire IV. During battle, your front row party members do all the fighting. However, you can switch one of your three front row party members with anyone in the back. Party members in the back recover. So, it's incredibly beneficial and important to make good use of this feature. Battles also have a few other innovations as well. Such as the new combo system. If you time and combine two specific spells at the right time it may turn into a more powerful spell. There's not much else I can say about the battle system though. Overall, the battle system is great. It's a nice battle system. Let's move onto the difficulty now.

The difficulty in Breath Of Fire IV is quite lacking. Random battles are usually a joke. Bosses usually put up a decent challenge at best. While most of the bosses and random battles are a joke, the final boss certainly isn't. The final boss will put up an extreme challenge. Even prepared players will have a lot of trouble with the final boss. So, just be prepared for that. Furthermore, there's some really tough enemies that drop some of the best equipment in the entire game that are a decent challenge to defeat. Which adds some optional content to do once you've finished the game. Another cool feature of Breath of Fire IV, is that you sometimes play as the main antagonist. Who is a great character.

Occasionally you get to play as the Dragon God Emperor Fou-Lou. If you love having extremely powerful party members in your party or controlling one then you'll love his scenarios. Fou-Lou is extremely powerful and does insane amounts of damage and gains several extremely good abilities. The points of the game where you get to play as him are definitely some of the most fun of the entire game. So overall, the gameplay in Breath of Fire IV is great. It's a lot of fun and the game has pretty good pacing. Playing as the antagonist is just plain awesome too. Not to mention, the battle system has a lot of nice features. With that being said, it's onto the storyline next.

Storyline:10/10:The Storyline in Breath of Fire IV is extremely good. The cast of characters is diverse and unique. Each of them have their own attitudes and get at the minimum a fair amount of character development throughout the game. The dialogue is written extremely well too and most of the events in the game were well translated. Not to mention, the main plot in the game is pretty good too. Depending on how you view it. Furthermore, a great bonus is the antagonist in this game is one of the best ever to be in a game.

Fou-Lou is an extremely awesome antagonist who gets a lot of development throughout the game. As mentioned before, you will sometimes play as him throughout the game. During his scenarios you get to experience the game from his point of view. Believe it or not though, this antagonist is not completely evil. He actually does help out townspeople who are poor occasionally and solves a few problems that some towns have. His real goal is not completely evil either, but he will stop at nothing to accomplish it. Fou-Lou basically wants to reclaim his throne especially after seeing how corrupt the government is. From his point of view the world has changed for the worst in terms of government and that humanity may be heading that way as well. In general though, Fou-Lu is actually a pretty decent guy for a antagonist. You can relate to him as a person and he feels like one of the more realistic antagonists. Like someone who is actually a believable character. Ultimately, the storyline in Breath of Fire IV is amazing. The main cast is interesting and gets good development. The antagonist is extremely well thought of and innovative. Plus, he gets a extreme amount of development throughout the game. Not just that, but you can relate to him on a personal level. In conclusion, the storyline gets a 10/10. It's excellent. I really enjoyed the storyline of this game. Okay, onto the music next.

Music:10/10:The music in Breath of Fire IV is nailed perfectly. Every song in the game not only fits the current mood, but enhances it. All of the songs in the game I loved and would not mind listening to over and over. Sound effects in the game are fine too. They sound great and fit their purpose. In general though, I frequently listen to Breath of Fire IV's soundtrack. It's definitely one of the best soundtracks out there. So, overall music gets a 10/10. With that being said, how is Breath of Fire IV overall?

Overall10/10:Breath of Fire IV is one of the best RPG's I've ever played. It has extremely fun gameplay. The storyline is extremely well written. It has a great main cast and innovative/awesome antagonist. Both the main cast and antagonist get tons of development throughout the game. The music in Breath of Fire IV was fantastic too and one of the best RPG soundtracks I have ever had the honor to hear. So, overall Breath of Fire IV is just about a nearly perfect game. I give it a 10/10 definitely. This is for sure one of the greatest games ever made. Anyone who calls themselves an RPG fan owes it to themselves to give this excellent game a try.

Breath of Fire III (E) ISO

Description :

The lone survivor of a legendary dragon clan, a rebellious youth embarks on a great journey. One of discovery - and danger. The classic role-playing game now returns to continue the epic tale of Ryu and the dragon people. An inner power of uncertain origin matures Ryu into a warrior who ponders his purpose as he embarks on a mystical journey. What lies ahead is shrouded in mystery...yet strangely familiar.

Just like a yoyo, The quality of Breath of Fire games go up and down and up and down, so it comes to a surprise about the quality of the Breath of Fire game you are going to get. Breath of Fire was a good game, not great, but good. Breath of Fire 2 was quite a good game, BBreath of Fire 3 is excellent and Breath of Fire 4 is one of the worst Role Playing Games (RPG for short) I ever played. Oops, I spoiled the review, I said the game is excellent in the first paragraph, oh well.

You obtain the Cheese!

Once again, we take control of Ryu, the blue haired boy who comes out of nowhere in just about every Breath of Fire game, once again has the ability to warp in to dragons, behemoths and mythology beasts, but mainly Dragons. We also control Nina once again, but this time introduced about five hours in to the game, and Wyndia makes an appearence. Like at the start of Breath of Fire 2, Ryu starts his adventure as a little boy and is ready to learn about his past and how to be a man (Compare the pictures in the instruction booklet and see for yourself). Nina is also a little girl in this game, and an intelligent one too. Old favourites such as Gobi, Bo, Karn and Ox do not make an appearence, although several characters do remind you of these characters.

The story is about a dragon running around a mine burning people, but seen kets K.O'd by a Ox lookalike (Breath of Fire I character). The dragon is put on a train and sent on away. The dragon escapes and is found on the ground in the woods, only to find the dragon was in fact a young naked lad. His birthday suit startles Rei who then takes him to his treehouse. Thankfully, Ryu travels around in a blanket and then some armour. Ryu is on a quest to find out about himself, others want to travel with him but they have their own rreasons. Rei and Teepo want to make it big in Wyndia, Nina wants to be an independant princess, Momo wants to be a great scientist, Peco... well... and Garr wants to help Ryu in his quest.

This time, joining the crew is Teepo, one of them which makes you confused over the gender, until their gender is revealed and you think 'What?'. Then there is Rei, one of the best characters in the Breath of Fire series, he is cool headed, a thief and is hiding a secret. These are the first two characters you can control, and is a shame when their not in your active party (group of members). There is Garr, a bloke who is great when watching him, but crap playing him, the cool strong religeous bloke, that is who he is. Momo, a scientist who has some of the best plots in the game, as well as some of the best one liners in the entier game. Finally we have Peco, a non talking... onion! Yes, You heard right, Peco is a lovable ONION. And it is even better when you see it, especially when it uses it's victory pose.

I must say that the new evil characters are great to have a round. Two enemies which annoy you for the majority of the game are two of the best which Capcom have ever created. They are Bailo and Sunder, two strong men with unicorn horns who are just evil, they follow Ryu and Nina near the start of the game, until you defeat them once and for all, bully's beware, you always get your comupance!

Breath of Fire III is a very funny game. There is many scenes which will make you laugh. Even though Ryu is a muted character (Can't talk) he has many animations on his head. There is one scene when Teepo and Rei do something, and two tear drops appear on Ryu's head.

Well doesn't that beat all?

Breath of Fire III is another RPG with dungeons and random encounters in it. Although the most annoying thing is that the dungeons are usually quite big (The power plant, Momo's tower and the Ghost mansion) so that doesn't help when random encounters appear every ten or so steps, however most random encounters can be taken down in a matter of seconds (at the start of the game at least). When going in a battle, you do not have to wait ages for the screen to load and characters to appear (Final Fantasy and Saga Frontier), the game automatic goes in to battle mode, anybody who has played Squaresoft's Chrono Trigger will easily understand what I am saying here.

During battle, you have several commands. There are a number on options. Typically, you can run away, which you can wether or not you are facing a wall, use an item such as a herb or Croc Tear on another character, Attack with your weapon, wether it is a staff, sword, knife or gun (Characters can only equip certain weapons, like Momo can't equip a sword, only a gun), use magic to cast fire, ice, healing, defence and such spells, defend against attacks to recive less damage, Look to examine an enemy, and then there is Change to change weapons and armour, but uses a term.

Your characters travel in groups of three. The party member which usually is forced to be in your group all the time is the main character, Ryu and when you have the choice, you can select two others, although you are forced to use certain characters for dungeons, like Rei and Teepo for the mansion. The two other characters follow you around and you can select which you you wish to control, if Ryu is leading the group he can use his sword on people to get money, Rei can pick locks, Momo can shoot her gun, Teepo can kick, Garr can push blocks etc. I have no complaints about the Gameplay in Breath of Fire III, other then random battles but it is a RPG after all.

You can also use the camera, anywhere in the game to look for objects behind walls. If you use the camera behind a wall in the mansion garden, you can find a wallet and even a man who will give you some money. You can even find some merchants in one city who will give you a card for discounts in the local shops. Of course, the camera doesn't need changing ever five seconds like it does in Breath of Fire IV!

This time the characters can learn special attacks too. From certain points in the game, if you do something for some characters, they will offer to train you some moves. After so often, talk to them again after a few levels or scenes in the game, they might just teach your character a trick or too, they could be useless or very useful!

There is a brand new World Map for Breath of Fire III. Unlike the Final Fantasy style world map from the first two games, this time the world is zoomed in and made like a path. Ryu can travel around the World Mpap on foot, and you just control him whilst finding secret places such as houses, trees, treasure areas, masters hut etc.

Fishing is back in the Breath of Fire world, however this time it is quite harder and more involving. There is a fairy strategy game for you to play, as well has certain mini-games which require a lot of skill to do, for example Garr's tug o war race.

The graphics in Breath of Fire are really colourful. Using state of the art graphics, Capcom has created a cartoon world, much different to that of its Resident Evil series. The towns, caves, characters and castles are full of cuteness, Nina, Young Ryu (Not the older one though, check the insturction book for his ugly mug), Peco and Teepo are all the cuteness factor of the game.

The animations are great in Breath of Fire III. It made me smile how a tear appears over a persons head when you use a sword on them, or when you get yourself spotted by guards. Whenever Ryu uses his sword, he does a fast animation which is both funny and impressive how he does it.

They maybe cute and colourful,but the graphics in Breath of Fire III are some of my favourite in a game for the Sony Playstation. If only more games were like it in terms of graphics, it would match the unbreakable shadows, animations and detail.

I also enjoy Breath of Fire III's music. The sound effects are a good thing to talk about, everthing from a slash, a strike, a wail or Teepo's noise when s/he kicks and even Garr'sangry cry. These are all very good sound effects to listen to. Although the music is also brilliant. From the sad introduction music to the awesome world map music. Just like the graphics, the sound and music is very cute, although it is a joy to listen to.

Breatth of Fire is a very enjoyable game. It is very big for a one disc RPG, has about fifty hours of gameplay. You will enjoy every aspect of the game, including the puzzles and graphics. It will last you a very long time, especially without a walkthough. I remember buying the American Import and I almost got really far before the United Kingdom magazines brought out a walkthough, I was qquite proud of myself for getting past most of the hard puzzles.

If you are in to RPG's or the Breath of Fire series (which should be both) I say you should buy this game, you can't go wrong!

Good!

- An interesting story
- Brilliant characters
- Great character development
- The best in the series in my opinon
- Great gameplay
- Lots of options
- Good useage of the rotating camera
- The ability to use character powers
- Great cute graphics
- Many places to explore and many things to do

Bad!

- Some of the best characters will not always be on screen
- Quite a few too many battles
- A bit boring when you have top go the long way round most of the time

Summary:

Graphics - 10/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Music - 10/10
Sound - 9/10
Story - 10/10
Challenge - 8/10
Enjoyment - 10/10
Lifespan - 9/10
Overall - 10/10

Alternatives - This is one of the best RPG's which is out on the Playstation, but I recommend Grandia, Saga Frontier, Final Fantasy games, Suikoden, Legend of Legaia and Legend of Kartia.

Description :

Bravo Air Race (known as Reciproheat 5000 in Japan and Air Race in Europe) is an arcade/action racing video game for PlayStation developed by Xing Entertainment and published by THQ.

Features :

Bravo Air Race features several prominent aircraft from several decades. Using exploits it's possible to unlock jet planes and alternate racing colors.

Aircrafts :

Gameplay :

Aircraft, despite of obvious differences in real life, are equally balanced; that is to say a player using a jet aircraft can lose to a propeller driven one, and visa-versa.
There are a handful of maps; one of which is selected by the player after selecting their aircraft. Most of the maps feature racing through narrow ravines and canyons, diving under bridges and rock structures accompanied by sharp turns and climbing maneuvers. Airplanes can't roll, and the game will stop your climb at a certain altitude, forcing players to mainly stick to the course direction. The game featured a time run mode and a split screen multi-player mode.

Brave Saga - Shin Sedai Robot Senki (Japan) ISO

Brave Saga - Shin Sedai Robot Senki (Japan) ISO

Description :

Shin Sedai Robot Senki: Brave Saga is a Role-Playing game, developed and published by Takara, which was released in Japan in 1998.

Shin Sedai Robot Senki: Brave Saga is such a memorable RPG. If you’ve never seen the Brave Fighters series released by Sunrise and only shown in Asian then you probably will not give a second look to it but for those that grew up with Brave Fighters, Exkizer, Fighbird, Da Garn, Might Gaine (my fav), J-Decker, Goldran, Dagwon, and Gaogaigar you will jump for joy at the newest Brave Fighter, Saint of Braves: Baan Gaan. Not only does if have Baan Gaan but ALL of the Brave Fighters…except Gaigaigar(GaGaGa!), too bad. He may not have two other robots with him like all the other series but he does have a second robot to combine with. Ever since I went to Japan and got the game I have been playing non-stop for hours.

Anyway, on with the review. If you buy the box version (best choice), you receive not only the beautiful colored and a never nice cover box but along with a mini rubber plastic figure of the hero Baan. He has poses as if he is commanding. I didn’t think much of the figure but its nice to have. When you read the manual it brings back so many memories of the past unforgettable Brave Fighters and tells you of the new story of a new evil emperor.

As I started the game, the presentation was not very exciting. I was hoping for an animation intro just like the anime. The story seemed alright with the main character, Shunpei, in a contest and all of a sudden, they are attacked. That’s when his little toy robot comes out and turns big. WOW! YUUSHA GATTAI! So, when the battle is over, they show what I wanted so much, an animation intro, with a song too! The anime was sweet and the song stays in your head forever. The story actually is rather long, having you go through chapters which are like the episodes in the series.

Also there is a LIBRARY feature, the best feature in the game. You thought seeing those old robot toys that you had do moves they did like in the series, you won’t stop smiling when you see the video storage option. Basically what it does is store all the animations of what you’ve seen while you were playing. And you know what that is, the most memorable, combination sequences. It shows all three robots and sometimes the fourth that combines with the main robot. Then there is the best, Super Combination with the Main robot and the second main robot. Did I mention that you can also watch the intro over and over again there? WAH!

So enough talk, here are the stats of the game which I thought was appropriate of giving.

===GAMEPLAY===
9/10
The gameplay was great but the battle system gets a bit boring after 70 hours of playing. I like leveling up my guys to the max. hehe, I spent 105 hours on Xenogears and maxed everyone and got everything. When a robot executes his special weapons, some of them take a while to finish. If you happen to be in a long battle you’ll get tired of the battle quickly. The boss battles seems to be quite hard sometimes. You need to level up constantly.

===GRAPHICS===
10/10
I was amazed at the nice graphics. The robots may be in SD form but they still looked clear. I saw no choppiness and the anime cut-scenes was a bit blurry but that’s how it was in the TV show. I could have enhanced it but it wasn’t too bad. All the special techniques were done marvelously. I did not see a single thing that disturbed me.

===MUSIC===
8/10
Other than the intro song and the anime cut-scenes music, the regular battle music and the music everywhere else was a bit repetitive. Got a bit boring. Some were even really childish.

===REPLAY VALUE===
8.5/10
Although it’s a lot of battling, I would play things game again or just from where I saved from last time to read the story again. And there are 2 stories. It all leads back to the same plot but in the middle it splits up. You can make two choices that will not effect you a lot but worth playing both.

===OVERALL===
9/10
If you’re a Brave Series fan, go to the store now and buy it. Only in places where Japanese games are available though. If you have an interest in robots, considered it and look at the box to see if you those kind of robots. Then you get it. If you can tolerate robots but don’t really like them and only going for story (like Xenogears for some people) then don’t get it. There aren’t many Brave Fighter fans out there I know but for those who are, buy this game to keep those childhood memories alive.
