Brave Saga - Shin Sedai Robot Senki (Japan) ISO

Description :

Shin Sedai Robot Senki: Brave Saga is a Role-Playing game, developed and published by Takara, which was released in Japan in 1998.

Shin Sedai Robot Senki: Brave Saga is such a memorable RPG. If you’ve never seen the Brave Fighters series released by Sunrise and only shown in Asian then you probably will not give a second look to it but for those that grew up with Brave Fighters, Exkizer, Fighbird, Da Garn, Might Gaine (my fav), J-Decker, Goldran, Dagwon, and Gaogaigar you will jump for joy at the newest Brave Fighter, Saint of Braves: Baan Gaan. Not only does if have Baan Gaan but ALL of the Brave Fighters…except Gaigaigar(GaGaGa!), too bad. He may not have two other robots with him like all the other series but he does have a second robot to combine with. Ever since I went to Japan and got the game I have been playing non-stop for hours.

Anyway, on with the review. If you buy the box version (best choice), you receive not only the beautiful colored and a never nice cover box but along with a mini rubber plastic figure of the hero Baan. He has poses as if he is commanding. I didn’t think much of the figure but its nice to have. When you read the manual it brings back so many memories of the past unforgettable Brave Fighters and tells you of the new story of a new evil emperor.

As I started the game, the presentation was not very exciting. I was hoping for an animation intro just like the anime. The story seemed alright with the main character, Shunpei, in a contest and all of a sudden, they are attacked. That’s when his little toy robot comes out and turns big. WOW! YUUSHA GATTAI! So, when the battle is over, they show what I wanted so much, an animation intro, with a song too! The anime was sweet and the song stays in your head forever. The story actually is rather long, having you go through chapters which are like the episodes in the series.

Also there is a LIBRARY feature, the best feature in the game. You thought seeing those old robot toys that you had do moves they did like in the series, you won’t stop smiling when you see the video storage option. Basically what it does is store all the animations of what you’ve seen while you were playing. And you know what that is, the most memorable, combination sequences. It shows all three robots and sometimes the fourth that combines with the main robot. Then there is the best, Super Combination with the Main robot and the second main robot. Did I mention that you can also watch the intro over and over again there? WAH!

So enough talk, here are the stats of the game which I thought was appropriate of giving.

===GAMEPLAY===
9/10
The gameplay was great but the battle system gets a bit boring after 70 hours of playing. I like leveling up my guys to the max. hehe, I spent 105 hours on Xenogears and maxed everyone and got everything. When a robot executes his special weapons, some of them take a while to finish. If you happen to be in a long battle you’ll get tired of the battle quickly. The boss battles seems to be quite hard sometimes. You need to level up constantly.

===GRAPHICS===
10/10
I was amazed at the nice graphics. The robots may be in SD form but they still looked clear. I saw no choppiness and the anime cut-scenes was a bit blurry but that’s how it was in the TV show. I could have enhanced it but it wasn’t too bad. All the special techniques were done marvelously. I did not see a single thing that disturbed me.

===MUSIC===
8/10
Other than the intro song and the anime cut-scenes music, the regular battle music and the music everywhere else was a bit repetitive. Got a bit boring. Some were even really childish.

===REPLAY VALUE===
8.5/10
Although it’s a lot of battling, I would play things game again or just from where I saved from last time to read the story again. And there are 2 stories. It all leads back to the same plot but in the middle it splits up. You can make two choices that will not effect you a lot but worth playing both.

===OVERALL===
9/10
If you’re a Brave Series fan, go to the store now and buy it. Only in places where Japanese games are available though. If you have an interest in robots, considered it and look at the box to see if you those kind of robots. Then you get it. If you can tolerate robots but don’t really like them and only going for story (like Xenogears for some people) then don’t get it. There aren’t many Brave Fighter fans out there I know but for those who are, buy this game to keep those childhood memories alive.
